This is a project of National and Strategic importance as the Security Assurance Framework is applicable to each Department and Ministry in Centre and State under the IT Act. The project required frequent interaction with NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) of U.S. Department of Commerce for collaborative development of the framework to meet Indian Government requirements. It also requires frequent interaction with senior most officers in Ministry of Communication and IT, CERT-IN, NASSCOM etc. The project steering committee is represented by senior officers of Ministry of Home Affairs, Intelligence Bureau, NIC etc.

Principal Investigator, Project to study Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) by NIST, US and suggest an appropriate information security assurance framework for applying it with Government of India (2010-2012) with Ministry of Communication and IT (MoCIT) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), US.

The objective of the project is to develop an information security assurance framework for the Government of India and is supported by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT). The initial exercise included the study of the United States’ Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) in collaboration with National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States (NIST) to suggest  an overarching framework of an overall security strategy that can be applied to bring information security standardization across various agencies of the Government of India and be suitably tailored to such Government agency’s mission and goals. The second phase of the project included validation and refinement of the framework by  implementing it at various agencies with Government of India.
