Rajesh Chakrabarti

Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti joined as Director at MDI, he has taught Finance and Public Policy for over two decades – at the University of Alberta, Canada, Georgia Tech, USA, the Indian School of Business (ISB) and Jindal Global University. Before joining MDI he was Professor and Dean at the Jindal Global Business School, Jindal Global University. As the founding Executive Director of the Bharti Institute of Public Policy at ISB’s Mohali campus he helped design and launch one of India’s leading public policy programs. He has also been Executive Vice President, Research and Policy at the Wadhwani Foundation. Rajesh has held visiting positions at various places including IIM Calcutta, ISI Delhi, IDF Gurgaon, ICN Nancy, France and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

  1. Independence Day 2021 celebration with kids of Human Hope Foundation

    When the date 15th August comes, our hearts fill with excitement and joy, because this was the day when our country got its freedom back. For citizens of a country nothing is more important than their country’s Independence Day. On this day of excitement and happiness, we can cherish some special bond with little children, it is a great occasion to share the interesting story of people’s sacrifices for freedom.

    This year, Team Samaritans celebrated Independence Day with the children of Human Hope Foundation by organising a painting competition, followed by a fun filled and knowledge session.

    We got entries of paintings from more than 44 kids of age 11 to 18 and distributed masks, edibles and stationery to these kids. 6 of them were declared as winners.

    This brought out their creativity and we could spread a message of love and freedom for all.

  2. International Yoga Day, 2021

    MDI celebrated the morning of International Yoga Day, 2021 virtually in the presence of Dr. Navdeep Joshi, yog practical trainer and corporate instructor. Students, faculty and staff joined the program. The director, Prof. Rajesh Chakrabarti delivered the welcome address and shared the importance of yoga. Then, the dean, Dr. Jyotsna Bhatnagar also motivated the students with her inspiring words. It was a one hour program that included refreshing yoga asanas and meditation, with knowledge on the importance of yoga for mind and body. Everyone had a yoga-full start to the day!

    An engagement activity was also carried out with a yoga competition for MDI current students and alumni, also open to faculty and staff kids on campus. A 15-30 second video was asked for from the participants displaying a yoga asana. The same was judged by Dr. Navdeep Joshi and top three were declared.

  3. MarqConnect 2020:

    December 12th marked another year of grand success for MarQConnect, the annual marketing conclave of Marquity, the marketing society of MDI Gurgaon. Now in its 4th edition, the conclave went international this year with Ms. Aysha Mustafa gracing the event as a keynote speaker. Acclaimed industry leaders talked on key marketing concerns, and the audience went back with a multitude of insights and revelations. The event began with Mr. Rohit Raj, Mr. Vineet Singh and Mr. Arvind Bhandari discussing how the marketing code can be cracked for the Millennial and GenZ audience, under the moderation of Mr. Amit Hans. This was followed by a fireside chat on Advertising, with two of the greatest names in the field, Mr. Ambi Parmeswaran and Mr. K.V. Sridhar. The second panel of the day consisted of Ms. Ashima Chetan and Ms Priya Choudhary and the discussions were centered around hyper-customization, under the moderation of Prof. Nakul Gupta. With the conclusion of this panel, it was time for the eagerly awaited keynote addresses. Mr. Sanjay Gupta and Ms. Aysha Mustafa enthralled the audience with the depth of their knowledge and the ability to engage. This marked the close of one the most successful marketing conclaves of the year, bigger and better than ever before in these times of crises.

  4. FinConclave 4.0

    Monetrix, the Finance and Economics club of MDI Gurgaon successfully conducted the 4th edition of Finance Conclave, the annual flagship event of the club, on 13th of December 2020

    Monetrix has been the driver of a plethora of activities related to finance and economics on campus including conducting knowledge sharing sessions, sharing compendiums, and covering industries and economies to develop a broader understanding of the global and domestic trends. Finance Conclave, the annual flagship event of the club is the place to be for management and industry interaction at MDI in the realm of Finance and Economics. With a rich history of history of hosting eminent personalities like Piyush Sharma (Ex-CEO Zee (New Initiatives), India and APAC) and Ashish Kila (Director at the Perfect Group), Finance Conclave has been at the heart of financial discussions and panel conversations at MDI, Gurgaon.


    This year, even though the whole world is at a standstill because of the coronavirus pandemic, Monetrix kept alive the tradition of hosting top industry professionals, albeit virtually. In its 4th edition of Finance Conclave held virtually on 13 th of December 2020, industry stalwarts delivered keynotes on myriad of topics pertaining to the current financial pulse of the nation.


    The key speakers for the event included Mr. Saurabh Jain (VP, PayTM) discussing “The 9 steps to Startup Success”, Mr. Emmanuel Murray (Sr. Advisor, Caspian Impact Investment) sharing his rich experience on “The future of Impact Investment” and Mr. C.S. Ghosh (CEO & MD, Bandhan Bank) talking about “The role of Banks and Financial Institutions in financial inclusion”.


    The event was a success and attendees from different business schools and professions were provided with deep insight into the why’s, the how’s and the what’s of running the financial engine in India.

  5. HR Conclave 6.0

    HR Conclave 6.0, the flagship event of HR Direction club of MDI Gurgaon, with the theme Resilient HR: Rewind. Rejuvenate. Reposition. was organized in a virtual setup on 12th and 13th December 2020. The event attracted great participation from student community and industry professionals. The event was filled with an insightful panel discussion, an interactive story- telling session and a cut-throat case competition.

    The event kicked off with a panel discussion involving industry stalwarts of the likes of Dr. GP Rao (Founder and Managing Partner, Goof People Relations), Bhavna Batra (Managing Director, Management Consulting - PwC), Budaraju Sudhakar (Joint President - HR, Adani Group), Prem Singh (President-Group HR, JK Organization), Dr. Sanjeev Dixit (Global President-Human Capital Management, Cadila Pharmaceutical Limited), VK Singh (Director HR, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited) and moderated by Dr. Jyotsna Bhatnagar (Dean Graduate Programmes and Chair PGP-HRM, MDI Gurgaon). The panel discussion revolved around topics like workplace and workforce reconfiguration, employee wellness, future of HR. Post the discussion, the audience interacted with the speakers and gained varied insights.

    The panel discussion was followed by a story-telling session by Ms. Ramya Rao (General Manager-HR, Reliance Industries Ltd.) where she shared the importance of good story-telling. She also laid focus on building a quality network through story-telling. The key take-away was: ‘Stories are threads that connect us in the loom of life.’

    The next day of the conclave observed a cut throat case study competition in association with MBAtrek. 6 teams from the best B-Schools of India presented their case solution to the judges Mr. Abhishek Srivastava (Co-founder and CEO, MBAtrek) and Ms. Devalina Parichha (Lead- Learning & Development Solutions, MBAtrek). The winners were awarded with cash prize and certificates.

    The event was successful in bringing together intellectuals across educational institutes and industries to facilitate discussions around the theme of the conclave. HR Conclave 6.0 turned out to provide an exponential learning curve and an enthralling experience to all the participants involved.

  6. OpsTalks 2020 - The Annual Operations Management Conclave

    Academic year 2020-2021 was remarkable as Opsession conducted its third Annual Operations Management Conclave - OpsTalks 2020 at MDI Gurgaon, virtually. It was a pride moment for the club to host the Keynote Talk by Mr. Satyashri Mohanty, the Founding Director of Vector Consulting Group. The Keynote Talk was followed by two panel discussion on the topics of “Building a Resilient Supply Chain” and “Driving Sustainable Operational Excellence” by esteemed industry professionals like Mr. Dheeraj Shah from TCS, Mr. Ponraj Periswami from Wahl Clipper Corporation, Mr. Brish Ban Vaidya from Uber, Mr. Amol Nagar from GE Aviation, Dr. Rakesh Sinha from Reflexive Supply Chain Solutions and Mr. Ashish Mendiratta from Chamber of Visionary Supply Chain Leaders, both panel discussions being facilitated by the Operations Management faculty of MDI Gurgaon, Dr. Rajesh K Singh, Dr. Anupama Prashar and Dr. Manoj Kumar Srivastava. Each of the panel-speaker shared their views on the topics and captivated the audience with industry perspectives, trends, drivers and insights of what the future holds.

  7. OpStakes 2020 - The Annual Magazine of Opsession

    This year, the magazine was launched virtually during the Annual Operations Management Conclave OpsTalks 2020 in the presence of industry stalwarts, as well as all the business school students and corpo-rate professionals in the audience. We received more than 300 entries for the articles to be published from which few bests are included in the magazine.

  8. Opniscient 2020 - The Operations Case Study Challenge

    Opsession also conducted their flagship event of National Level Operations Case Study Challenge. Comprising of three rounds, a quiz, case submission and presentation, the competition involved a live case study from the field of Operations which was floated across top B-schools of India. The event was conducted in collaboration with EFESO Consulting and KnoWerx Edcucation Pvt. Ltd. with prizes worth 2.75 lakhs comprising APICS Certifications like CPIM, CSCP & CLTD worth Rs. 70,000 from KnowerXEducation for every team member and cash prize of Rs. 25,000 along with live project opportunity with EFESO Consulting. This year the case study revolved around “Operations Productivity and Demand Management” and attracted a participation of more than 225 teams across India. Top 9 teams came down to the national finale which was organised virtually with Mr. Bharat Jain from EFESO Consulting and Mr. Nistush Tulsyan from KnoWerx Education being the jury. The Team from SPJIMR, Mumbai emerged as the winners.

  9. Delphique

    Delphique 2020, the 24th National Management Convention of MDI, kick started its event on 11th December, 2020. The event was organized virtually starting with a Lamp Lighting Ceremony followed by a Welcome Address by Dr. Pawan K Singh, Director-MDI and Prof. Jyotsna Bhatnagar, Dean GP & Student Affairs.

    The audience was then addressed by our first keynote speaker, Mr. Harsh Mariwala, Founder and Chairman, Marico, who spoke about inculcating a culture of innovation in business. The day concluded with an enriching session by Mr. Gaurav Jain, Senior Group Vice President, Motilal Oswal Investment Services who talked about managing equity for private investors.

  10. Reaching out to children of Human Hope Foundation (21st-22nd November)
    As a part of our Children’s Day celebration, this year we interacted with the children of Human Hope Foundation virtually. It began with getting to know them, their dreams and passions, and proceeded to fun games involving music, Pictionary and word play. Their spontaneity and wit enthralled us. With an aim to guide them in the right direction, we closed the session with an educational video to help them choose the right path. Samaritans also distributed gift kits to the children which included story books, colours and cream rolls.

  11. Plant at Home drive (21st -24th September) Each year, Samaritans, conducts a plantation drive at campus. This year as we were away from our campus, we decided to conduct a similar drive but at our home. Students planted seeds and saplings in their home kitchen gardens or in earthen pots for their balconies. We saw an enthusiastic participation from students and shared their pictures on our social media.

  12. Illumina organised a virtual event for the first time in the history of club under the banner of e-Illumina. The theme of the event was Film-E-Stan and we had a vision to expand our reach far beyond anything we had done before. For the first time, Illumina was a national level event with participants coming in from across the country. We had received registrations of 1500+ participants for e-Illumina.

    E-Illumina in association with Pedigree, Whiskas, & IAMS hosted a first of its kind Virtual Pet Lovers Meet! We received an overwhelming participation from pet parents from all over India who participated in a fun quiz, #FurtualFestival Awards and Lucky draw events. We also hosted Dr. Umesh Kallahalli took the time to conduct a Vet seminar for all the attendees. We had a total footfall of 200+. All the participants joined us and participated in the show with great enthusiasm. It was a unique experience for all of us. We also did a lot of social media engagement where had an engagement of 1 lakh. We had made a dedicated website, launched a facebook event and collaborated with multiple social media influencers in the domain of pet care.


    Art & Craft Competition
    We conducted an art competition in association with Creya Learnings to conduct Market Research for them. We also parallelly conducted research for Pidilite for our own learning. We collaborated with different schools around the country targeting students from class 3 to class 10. The kids were divided into 2 categories, from classes 3 to 6 and from classes 7 to 10. We had a total footfall of 550+ students. The competition was conducted virtually through a zoom platform. But the kids were unfazed by a situation like this and displayed their creativity based on the themes that were given. The response received by us was over whelming and the enthusiasm and passion of children stole our hearts!

  13. During these uncertain times, mental well being and health are invaluable for all of us. Yoga, a gift of India's ancient tradition is a wonderful source for inner engineering, helping unite our mind and body.

    Celebrating International Day of Yoga on the 21st of June, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director MDI Gurgaon, will be addressing MDI fraternity on the theme "Patanjali Yog Sutra for Intellectuals"

  14. Aarohan Week 2020, MDI Gurgaon
    Samaritans, MDI's social initiatives club, conducted its annual Aarohan week- social awareness week, from 18th to 23rd Feb 2020. Numerous activities were conducted on the campus to make people more aware of many pressing social issues. Samaritans installed wet and dry bins across the campus and put up hoardings to educate others about waste segregation

    In line with MDI's aspiration to be a plastic free campus, Samaritans educated the students about the ills of plastic and made them aware about the alternatives available. Samaritans also installed bird feeders at appropriate locations throughout campus to help feed the numerous birds, for whom MDI is a sanctuary. They also organised an animal behaviour awareness talk for the resident kids.

    Apart from that, Aarohan Week saw an awareness camp on Mental Health where counsellor Ms. Preeti Singh gave a talk. They also invited Jinia Mukherjee as a guest who is a clinical psychologist as well as an asst. professor at Montpellier Business School, France. A Cancer Awareness Workshop which was conducted by people from Cancer Care India was conducted. Also, Stem Cell Awareness Stall was installed which helped make people aware and register as potential donors.

    A blood donation drive was conducted, in association with Rotary Blood Bank. It saw huge participation from the batch and staff members alike.A week-long collection drive was also conducted on campus. People donated clothes and other usable materials enthusiastically.

    Aarohan week was made successful by the participation of faculty as well as students. Samaritans looks forward to organizing more such events!

  15. Rendezvous, the International Alumni Meet 2020 | Berlin

    Cheers to many firsts to come!
    The first Berlin Alumni Meet was held on 6th March 2020 in the presence of our esteemed Director Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh. ManDevIans have proven that the world is a small place indeed!

    We express our immense gratitude to all our alumni who could find time from work and family, for their second family. If not for them, the first Berlin Rendezvous wouldn't have been the success it was.

    We are elated by their warmth and energy and look forward to even more participation and support in future!

  16. NAM

    Alumni Relations Committee of MDI Gurgaon successfully conducted the National Alumni Meet 2019, on the 16th of November.

    Students expressed their gratitude towards their beloved Alumni for carving out time and joining them for an evening filled with jollification, exuberance and nostalgia.

    The team was overjoyed with the warmth and energy showed by the alumni and looked forward to even more participation and support as they strive to bring the ManDevIan community closer.
