Dr. S.S. Marwaha, Doctorate in Microbiology and Commonwealth Post-Doctoral Fellow, specialized in Industrial Fermentation/Industrial Biotechnology, worked as Professor and Head, Department of Applied Agriculture; Dean, School of Management; Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Chairman, Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL), Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was former Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI), Mohali- an integral part of Cluster of Agri Food Biotechnology, set up at Knowledge City, SAS Nagar (Mohali). Dr. Marwaha has also worked as Director (Biotechnology), Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh – a State Govt. undertaking and Professor and Chairman, Department of Biotechnology, Punjabi University, Patiala.

Dr. Marwaha visited provinces of Saskatchewan and Quebac, Canada twice, first time in 2004 leading a delegation of Entrepreneurs from Punjab and second time in 2006 as, member of a 4 member delegation lead by Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), GOI, sent by PMO to explore the possibilities of participation of National Research Council (NRC) and Agriculture & Agri Food (AAF) , Canada and possibilities of joint ventures, in the Biotech Park and Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) in Knowledge City, developed at SAS Nagar, Mohali. Dr. Marwaha’s contribution in Institutional Development in Punjab with financial support of Central and State Governments include the establishment of Knowledge City including Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Institute of Nano-science and Technology (INST), Indian School of Business (ISB) and Cluster of Agri-Food Biotechnology including NABI, CIAB, PBTI & Biotechnology Park. Besides the above institutions Dr. Marwaha had been instrumental in the establishment of other institutions in the State having role in the post-harvest management of agri & horticulture produce as well as ensuring quality and safety of the said commodities.

Dr. Marwaha as Researcher has contributed both in basic/fundamental and applied areas having relevance to the industry and society, which is evident from his Research publications including books, research papers, chapters in books, reviews, general publication, teaching & technology transfer Aids, etc. He as Researcher & Research Administrator has successfully handled several R&D Projects both of Academic and Industrial importance. Outcome of Dr. Marwaha’s work on quality assessment of Rural Water Supplies and RO Systems operative in Punjab has provided leads at the National level for ensuring the quality of Water Supplies for drinking purposes.

Recognizing Dr. Marwaha’s professional competence and services for promoting Science and Technology the Government of Punjab has conferred the State Award on him in the year 2003. Dr. Marwaha has the honour of being the member of Board of Governors of MDI Gurugram and the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of Food Safety Standard Authority (FSSA), Govt. of India. Since 2009, the time FSSAI became operational, Dr. Marwaha continued to be the member of Scientific Panels on GM Foods and Methods for Testing of Food Quality and Safety as well as he was a member of Board of Directors of Export Inspection Council (EIC) of Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), GOI, besides a member of State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) in Punjab constituted by the Ministry of Environment & Forest cum Climate Change (MoEF&CC), GoI for six years for the approval of infrastructure development projects and the Member of Board of Directors of many industries/organizations. Also Dr. Marwaha continued to be the member of the Statutory Bodies including Board of Studies, School Boards, Academic Councils & Executive Councils etc. of various National and State Universities.
