Dr. Pratap Chandra Biswal is a Professor in the Finance & Accounting Area at Management Development Institute Gurgaon (MDI Gurgaon). He returned to MDI Gurgaon on 2nd June 2026 after serving as Director & Professor of IMI Bhubaneswar. He brings over 22 years of distinguished experience in teaching, research, consulting, executive education, and academic leadership across premier management institutions in India.
Prof. Biswal has held several key leadership positions at MDI Gurgaon, including Dean – School of Management of Financial Institutions & Accreditations, Dean – Industry Connect, and Dean – Research & Accreditations. He played a pivotal role in strengthening institutional research ecosystems, accreditation processes, rankings, industry engagement, digital transformation, and global visibility initiatives. He was instrumental in MDI Gurgaon receiving AACSB accreditation and advancing its EQUIS and international ranking initiatives.

His teaching and research interests span Risk Management & Derivatives, Financial Risk Management, International Finance, Corporate Finance, Commodity Derivatives, Macroeconomic Policy Research, and Applied Econometrics. Over the years, he has taught a wide range of courses including Derivatives & Risk Management, Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management, International Corporate Finance, Financial Markets & Institutions, and Open Economy Macroeconomics. He has also delivered executive education and management development programmes for leading organizations including HP, Oracle, Genpact, Indian Railways, NTPC, LIC, ONGC, Canara Bank, UCO Bank, and senior officers from government and financial institutions.

Prof. Biswal has undertaken several prestigious consulting and policy research assignments for organizations such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Reserve Bank of India, SEBI, NSTFDC, CDC-USA, WHO, and Union Bank of India. His current consulting engagements include projects related to Bharatmala Pariyojana and banking risk assessment frameworks.

Prof. Biswal has published extensively in reputed national and international journals including Resources Policy, Applied Economics, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, Review of Behavioral Finance, and Finance Research Letters. His research contributions focus on financial markets, volatility modelling, commodity and currency markets, banking risks, investor behaviour, and macro-financial linkages. He has also authored case studies published by The Case Centre and Richard Ivey School of Business and regularly contributes articles to leading newspapers and business publications.

Prof. Biswal completed his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Hyderabad with specialization in financial market analysis and econometrics. He has guided several doctoral scholars and actively contributes to academic and professional bodies through advisory, review, and board roles.

He has received multiple recognitions including the Best Teacher Award at MDI Gurgaon, RBI Research Scholarship, and UGC Senior and Junior Research Fellowships. He is proficient in analytical and statistical tools including R, Python, SPSS, EViews, and LIMDEP.
