Profile

Dr. Saikat Banerjee is an Assistant Professor in the Strategic Management area at MDI Gurgaon. He holds a PhD in Strategic Management from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. His research interests include entrepreneurial orientation of firms, innovation, CEO characteristics, international business, and social issues in business. His research papers are published in several international journals, and presented at various international conferences such as India Strategy Conference (2023), Strategic Management Society conferences in London (2022), Virtual (2020), Hyderabad (2018), Hong Kong (2016), and Berlin (2016); Academy of International Business annual meeting in Copenhagen (2019), Academy of Management annual meeting in Chicago (2018) etc. He has diverse past experience in academic (IMT Hyderabad, and University of Hyderabad), inter-government (United Nations ESCAP), government (Reserve Bank of India, and United Bank of India), and private (Cognizant Technology Solutions) organizations interacting with a varied range of stakeholders across roles, functions, geographies, and social status. He is also the recipient of Reserve Bank of India Young Scholar award, and Strategic Management Society conference’s “Best Research Paper in Innovation” award. He also received Teaching Excellence (Best Teaching) Award, MDI Gurgaon (2026) for receiving the highest student feedback.

His research focuses on understanding how managerial characteristics, organizational capabilities, and institutional environments shape strategic decision-making and firm performance. His work spans Behavioral Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Innovation Strategy, and Nonmarket Strategy, with publications in various journals.
 

Dr. Banerjee believes that management education should develop strategic thinkers capable of addressing complex organizational challenges. His teaching combines conceptual frameworks with business cases, simulations, experiential learning, and contemporary managerial examples to bridge theory and practice.
