  • Fellow (Ph.D) – Finance & Accounting -  from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Received FAIR (New Delhi) research grant for the thesis.
  • B.E. (Chemical) – Gujarat University (Gold Medalist)

He worked for more than 20 years in academic institutions and around 17 years in consulting and industry in different roles. During his career of more than 17 years at IIM, Ahmedabad, he served as Dean (Programmes) for 5 years, as Chairperson of 2-year MBA Programme (PGP), as Chairperson of 1-year MBA Programme (PGPX), as Director of IIM, Dubai Branch, as a member of Finance Committee and Investment Committee, as an Invitee to the Board meetings, and served various committees at IIMA. As Dean(P), he managed and supervised several major projects like:

  • EQUIS accreditation (two cycles)
  • Project leader for implementation of SAP S4 HANA ERP including development of organization structure and change management across departments
  • International and national rankings
  • Mentorship of IIM, Nagpur for a period of three years
  • Set up Dubai Branch and served as a Director of Dubai Branch for 2 years
  • Invitee to the Board meetings

He has designed and conducted several management development programmes (MDPs) in China, Dubai, Egypt, India, Kuwait, Nairobi, South Africa and Thailand. He has also offered customized MDPs for several clients.

His present professional affiliations include:

  • Independent director and a member of the audit committee on the board of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) since July 2015
  • Member on the board of IIM, Nagpur and the chairperson of the audit committee (since March 2019)
  • Member of the finance Committee, Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar since 2021

His past professional affiliations include:

  • Independent director and a member of the audit committee and Procurement Committee on the board of Paschim Gujarat Vij Co. Ltd. (PGVCL) from July 2019 to July 2023
  • Member of the Cost Accounting Standards Board of the Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of India (ICMA) from 2008-09 to 2016-17.
  • Expert member in the Pension Reforms Committee and Financial Resources Committee set up by the Finance Department of the Government of Gujarat.
  • Faculty nominee on the Board of Governors, IRMA, Anand for 2 years

Prof. Gandhi has taught several core and elective courses in post-graduate and PhD programmes at IIM, Ahmedabad. Major courses include:

Prof. Gandhi has conducted several consulting assignments for the companies both in public sector and private sector, and for NGOs. The areas of consulting include:

  • Formulation of IT strategies, design, development and implementation of customized software solutions in the areas of asset management & treasury, portfolio services, accounting, materials management, product costing, MIS and dashboards
  • Development of a costing system for formulation business and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) business of a pharma company having 6 plants and international subsidiaries
  • Designing Performance-linked Incentive systems for the employees
  • Restructuring exercise for a dairy based on the Vision document of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)
  • Development of functional manuals in the areas of Accounts and Finance for an organization set up under Water Resources and Water Supply Department of the Government of Gujarat to facilitate reforms in the rural water supply and sanitation through community participation with the financial assistance from the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
  • Documentation of experiences of administrative and fiscal decentralization during the 9th five-year plan in a Southern State of India and identifying the areas of concern for strengthening decentralization during the 10th five-year plan. Worked specifically in the areas of fiscal decentralization and its implications on the accounting, budgeting and monitoring systems and issues related to funds management, public/private participation, asset maintenance and renewal. This assignment was funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
  • A detailed Study of Macroeconomic & Social impacts of refinance sanctioned under OECF funds to more than 5000 assisted units throughout India
  • A world-bank funded project for Design & Development of Financial Systems including suggesting uniform accounting policies, budgeting, resource mobilisation and reorganisation of the finance wing of two large municipal corporations in Gujarat
  • Computerization of Property Tax and Water Charges Billing Systems with features like on-the-spot interest calculation, rebate calculation and on-line receipts for large municipal corporations in Gujarat
  • Assistance in preparation of the Computerization Master Plan for implementation of Top Management MIS for a state electricity board in South India
  • Review of operations and preparation of the strategic plan including the design of organisation structure and manpower planning for an Entrepreneurship Development Centre operated by Gujarat Government
  • Study on revival and restructuring of Urban Co-operative Banks in Gujarat - Assessment of recapitalization funds required for survival of weak and potentially weak UCBs in the State and restructuring needs of UCBs
  • Review of Compensation Structure and Incentive Systems for an international NGO having operations in several states in India.
