Role of Green Finance in Climate Transition

Climate change and climate transition have led to rise of risky investments. Green and Climate Finance are becoming tools to finance climate risk mitigations and climate adaptation in renewable energy, green products and circular economy strategies. Government of India has already laid down guidelines and policies for financial institutions. However, there are not many lenders of green finance in the economy as they are not lucrative as well as very less takers of green finance as they are costlier than other modes of finance. Green sovereign bonds are rising; however the supply side factors are still not robust for banks to issues green bonds, green equities and green loans. Carbon markets are yet to develop in India.
