FAQs

The global banking and financial services (BFS) industry is undergoing a systemic shift amidthe changing international economic and geopolitical outlook. The financial sector has to keep pace with the economy’s growth to enable and support it. BFSI is not merely a sectoral story — it’s a structural megatrend driving India’s transition to a Viksit Bharat.

As the fastest-growing economy, India is the fourth-largest in the world with a $4.2 trillion GDP, and ranks fifth in global market capitalisation. Expanding at a 10–12% annual growth rate, India’s BFSI sector has evolvedinto a Rs. 105 trillion giant in 2025, accounting for27% of thecountry’s GDP and the single-largest contributor to its corporate profit-to-GDP ratio. As of 2025, banks comprise 57% of the BFSI market cap, compared to 85% in 2005, signalling the rise of NBFCs, Fintechs, AMCs, and insurers as major value creators. India’s Mutual Fund AUM hit $850 billion in 2025, and its Fintech market is the third-largest in the world, with a projected market size of Rs. 36 trillion by 2029. India is a global hub for BFSI Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and is projected to host 2,200+ GCCs by 2030, employing more than 3 million professionals and generatinga project value of $135 billion.

The BFSI industry is evolving rapidly—digital transformation, regulatory complexity, data-driven decision-making, artificial intelligence and machine learning-based modelling and sustainability imperatives are reshaping the skills required of tomorrow’s leaders. To cater to these emerging and encouraging trends in the BFS space and the changing skill sets and training needed to excel in this sector, MDI Gurgaon has curated a PGDM-BFS programme, which will prepare you for the current and future BFS roles that require proficiency in banking and financial services management, data analytics, risk & cybersecurity, AI-driven financial modelling and technical aptitude.

Key Highlights of this programme include a BFS industry-aligned curriculum, designed with inputs from leading global and Indian industry players. The curriculum comprises core courses that build functional, domain and technical competency, as well as cross-functional learning, job skilling and values-based modules. The programme offers specialization tracks mapped to various career paths in this industry. The three specialisation tracks are 1) Corporate Finance & BFS Consulting, 2) Banking, Risk Management & Fintech, and 3) Financial Markets, Asset Management & Quantitative Finance. An experiential andragogy will provide hands-on experience and learning, besides networking opportunities with BFS leaders.

The curriculum is designed to prepare students for diverse roles, a few of which are,

  • Investment Banking: Front office (India operations), middle office (GCCs of international IBs) engaged in M&A and Capital Markets.
  • Corporate Banking: Corporate Credit, Account Management, Risk Analysis and Management, and Treasury.
  • Retail Banking and Wealth Management: Product development, Portfolio and Credit Risk Management; Private Banking and Relationship Management; Risk analytics.

The PGDM (BFS) offers a sectoral specialization, in the Banking and Financial Services sector that includes corporate, retail and investment banking, quantitative finance, trading and financial data research and analytics, risk management, asset management and fintech, among others. In contrast, our PGDM programme is a General Management programme that allows students to specialize in one or two functions, such as Finance, Marketing, Operations, and so on. It equips students to work in and build careers in these functions across industries and sectors.

The PGDM-BFS aims to equip students with a blend of BFS business understanding and the skillsets required therein, such as credit risk management, treasury and fixed-income markets, corporate banking, debt markets, corporate finance, financial consulting, data analytics, AI/ML applications, fintech innovation, compliance, and ESG finance. It will predominantly focus on the operations, products and solutions, finance and strategy functions within BFS organizations, as well as sectors ancillary to the BFS sector, such as management and technology consulting.

The PGDM-BFS programme, with its sectoral focus on BFS, is designed to provide sectoral depth and address talent requirements that are currently unmet or inadequately met, such as in Risk and Compliance, Portfolio and Fund Management, Product design and development, Digital and neo-banking, and Trading. This programme thus aims to open up a talent pool dedicated to the present and future needs of the Banking and Financial Services organizational and business requirements.

By emphasizing applied finance, the programme uses live case studies, simulation, finance data labs (such as Bloomberg Terminals), Fintech workshops, besides live projects, internships, dissertations, and masterclasses with industry leaders, to ensure students understand how to apply these frameworks to real-world corporate restructuring, credit analysis, and investment banking scenarios. Recognizing the shift in the global banking landscape, this programme includes dedicated modules that train you to apply modern technology to BFS activities, such as Python for Finance, Machine Learning for Finance, Digital Transformations in BFS, Generative AI Application in BFS, Blockchain in Banking, and AI-driven Credit Scoring. We aim to produce professionals who understand both the balance sheet and the underlying technology driving 21st-century finance.

We welcome applicants from diverse academic backgrounds, though a strong quantitative aptitude is necessary; working in the BFS sector requires a strong understanding of economics, finance, and technology, along with a good grasp of quantitative skills and data analytics. If you have a background in Mathematics, Statistics, Decision Sciences, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Commerce and/or are a qualified (or pursuing) CA/CFA/FRM, you may be a good fit for this programme. Students with an interest and passion for finance and with strong programming and technology-focused skills are encouraged to apply.

Placements for the PGDM-BFS programme will be conducted around the same time as the flagship PGDM and other postgraduate programmes at MDI Gurgaon. However, the placement process for PGDM-BFS will be run as a separate process, aligned with the programme’s sector-focused positioning.

Being a specialised programme, PGDM-BFS will primarily target roles and opportunities in Banking, Financial Services, FinTech, Risk, Markets, Analytics, and allied domains. Accordingly, recruiter outreach and role mapping for the programme will be distinct and curated for BFS-specific career outcomes.

At the same time, certain organisations may choose to hire from multiple programmes depending on their role requirements. Such cross-program participation will be applicable only at the recruiter’s discretion.

MDI Gurgaon is also actively engaging with anchor recruiters and industry partners, including organisations that have contributed to the programme’s curriculum design. The programme is supported by an Industry Advisory Board comprising senior industry experts, who will continue to guide corporate engagement and strengthen recruitment opportunities for the batch.

PGDM-BFS offers a sector-focused placement process aligned with BFS and allied domains, while students continue to benefit from MDI Gurgaon’s broader campus ecosystem, industry network, and institutional brand.
