Abstract

Crowdlending has gained increased attention in the digital age due to its potential to connect lenders and borrower effectively. However, the existing literature lacks a cohesive and comprehensive review that synthesizes the various enablers and inhibitors of crowdlending platform usage. To address this gap, the authors conducted a systematic literature review, drawing on multiple theoretical perspectives such as signalling theory, efficient market hypothesis theory, and diffusion of innovations theory. This review analysed 85 key studies on crowdlending, focusing on the antecedents, mediators, and consequences usage behaviour. They developed a conceptual framework that integrates these elements, providing a clearer understanding of the dynamics of crowdlending usage behaviour. The study uniquely contributes to the peer-to-peer platform literature and helps marketers create a better customer experience. The study also identifies critical areas for future research in terms of theory, characteristics, context, and methods.
