Introduction:

Opsession as an academic club was started in 2014 with a definite goal, to become the go-to-place for the students’ fraternity for all the things under Operations Management. Eventually it became the community of all the supply chain and operations enthusiasts across the Management Development Institute Campus.

Agenda:

Operations has always been one of the most important function in any firm and the supply chain its backbone. Inventory & Warehouse Management, Transportation Management, Sales and Operations Planning, Demand and Supply Management are vital to an organization to create and maintain its competitive advantage. Plan, Source, Make, Deliver and Return creates a base for any end-to-end supply chain of an organization. Opsession encompasses all these aspects in its working, knowledge sharing and events and that is where it marks it holistic approach towards a true community facilitator.

Over the years, the club has been actively engaged the students through series of events and competitions to enthuse them into the field and is often touted as the most active academic club on campus.

From resolving queries in the Operations and Supply Chain Management area for academics and competitions to conducting events at college and national level, the constant endeavour of team Opsession is to help the student community gain new perspectives and insights in the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Under the stewardship of Dr. Manoj K. Srivastava, Professor Operations Management Area, the club through its endeavour is striving hard to make life at MDI a great learning destination. Prof. Srivastava has been the visionary and the real guiding force behind the club. With his 22 years of rich experience and great teaching and mentoring skills, sir has nurtured and enriched the knowledge and skills of entire students' fraternity.

Events:

OpsTalks - The Annual Operations Management Conclave

Academic year 2020-2021 was remarkable as Opsession conducted its third Annual Operations Management Conclave - OpsTalks 2020 at MDI Gurgaon, virtually. It was a pride moment for the club to host the Keynote Talk by Mr. Satyashri Mohanty, the Founding Director of Vector Consulting Group. The Keynote Talk was followed by two panel discussion on the topics of “Building a Resilient Supply Chain” and “Driving Sustainable Operational Excellence” by esteemed industry professionals like Mr. Dheeraj Shah from TCS, Mr. Ponraj Periswami from Wahl Clipper Corporation, Mr. Brish Ban Vaidya from Uber, Mr. Amol Nagar from GE Aviation, Dr. Rakesh Sinha from Reflexive Supply Chain Solutions and Mr. Ashish Mendiratta from Chamber of Visionary Supply Chain Leaders, both panel discussions being facilitated by the Operations Management faculty of MDI Gurgaon, Dr. Rajesh K Singh, Dr. Anupama Prashar and Dr. Manoj Kumar Srivastava. Each of the panel-speaker shared their views on the topics and captivated the audience with industry perspectives, trends, drivers and insights of what the future holds.

Opniscient – The Operations Case Study Challenge

National Level Operations Case Study Challenge is the flagship event of club. Comprising of three rounds, a quiz, case submission and presentation, the competition involves a live case study from the field of Operations which is floated across top B-schools of India. The event was conducted in collaboration with EFESO Consulting and KnoWerx Edcucation Pvt. Ltd. with prizes worth 2.75 lakhs comprising APICS Certifications like CPIM, CSCP & CLTD worth Rs. 70,000 from KnowerXEducation for every team member and cash prize of Rs. 25,000 along with live project opportunity with EFESO Consulting. This year the case study revolved around “Operations Productivity and Demand Management” and attracted a participation of more than 225 teams across India. Top 9 teams came down to the national finale which was organised virtually with Mr. Bharat Jain from EFESO Consulting and Mr. Nistush Tulsyan from KnoWerx Education being the jury. The Team from SPJIMR, Mumbai emerged as the winners.

Activities:

Certifications: Opsession in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) provided a Supply Chain Management Professional certification (CII-SCMPro) to MDI Students. The certification is recognized across industry with high standards and it consisted of modules like Essentials of Supply Chain Management, Competitive drivers of Supply Chain, Customer Relationship Management & Supplier Relationship Management, Role of Information Technology in Managing Supply Chain effectively and Global Supply Chain Management.

OpStakes: The Annual Magazine of Opsession sharing the thoughts and articles coming from across the management student’s community. This year we received over 300 entries for the articles among which best 10 are published in the magazine.

Compendium: Annual deliverable collection of concise but detailed information about Operations and Supply Chain Management.

OpsLite: A 26 days infographic series explaining words/phrases starting from 26 English letters.

SCOPS Quiz: Week long quiz on our social media handles with exciting prizes for winners.
